MDOC 2019 SP0

Generel

The MDOC integration to other programs has been improved. It is now possible with 64-bit integration. Generally has MDOC been improved on the threading, this means that more processes can run simultaneously. This work will continue in the future.

Communications with other programs has changed to “piping”- technology. This means that no firewall-ports must be opened any more. “Piping” is an internal communication protocol that only uses internal memory. This, has been implemented to fulfil IT-security requirements

MDOC is extended with a logging facility that gives possibility looking up who has opened files, deleted files, run procedures, viewer files, used commands etc.

This is done to accommodate requirements from public community companies that need to know who has interest in which cases and files

MDIndexSearch

MdIndexsearch has been extended to include search for GDPR-data. There is enhanced interest for GDPR-data. Therefor this functionality has been implemented in MDOC.

The function gives specific possibility for searching GDPR relevant data. To fulfil the need for finding documents regarding a specific person or a company.

MdInventor

MDInventor is now full 64-bit compatible. The integration is running significant faster - and is more stable.

The Inventor add-in is extended with a button that looks up the active document in MDOC.  A function that has been highly demanded by customers.

MdMultisave

Multisave has been made 64-bit on the Inventor integration. This should result in significant increase of performance. Furthermore has communication with MDOC changed to “piping”, to fulfil IT-security requirements.

MDOC 2018 SP0

General

In connection with the launch of Mdoc 2018, we are proud to present a new name for Mdoc.  We now call it MDOC and for this reason, splash screens and MDOC logo has been redesigned. MDOC 2018 features are listed below.

MDOC has been updated to support all new versions of Autodesk® and Microsoft, i.e. AutoCAD® 2018, Inventor® 2018, Revit® 2018 and Microsoft® Office 365 (MSI version).

Stability has been improved significantly and much effort has been invested in enhancing the database provider. Historically, database provider issues occurred but these should be completely eliminated from the new version of MDOC.

MDOC Core

We aim at offering MDOC in the cloud solution- this is still work in progress. The project is constantly evolving and a classic MDOC client that can be combined with a MDOC web client is now taking shape.

At present, we can’t predict exactly when both web and regular MDOC system access are ready for launch. However, the indication for a cloud based solution is sometime during the next year. We continue to focus our efforts on ensuring that the classic MDOC is based solely on the new MDOC Core.

MDOC web

MDOC Web is work in progress. The first couple of test installations have been established and will move to production this autumn. MDOC Web has been put into production in an early version with limited functionality. The new version of MDOC Web is based on the experiences, we harvested from the MDOC Web versions that are currently up and running but MDOC will be built on the framework NTI has developed to support all Web-based applications.

This new version of MDOC Web will eventually replace the old client, so all functions can be filled. We are aware of certain challenges that will be resolved along the way. The very big improvement in comparison to the MDOC classic is the user/security system. Everything will be ADFS controlled and rules can be set for accessing files at all levels.

BatchTask

A new module has been developed for classic MDOC. The module replaces all previous modules that can copy with references, etc. The module has been designed quite broad, so it provides other options than "just" to copy with references. The idea is for the module to be able to batch manage groups of files in different contexts.

The module picks numbers for file names with the Add Card Wizard and deselects files based on structured considerations, etc.

Taking into account the demanding and complex actions executed by this model, the user interface is highly intuitive. In comparison to previous copy with reference modules, the speed has been improved significantly. The user experience is more responsive, so you feel things are running smoothly.

Outlook integration

The Outlook integration has been expanded as regards the handling of favorites, making it easier to work with cases you use often. The favorites change dynamically as you close cases and open new ones.

Autodesk Vault integration

The Vault integration released last year has now become stable and it’s enriched with several new features including additional synchronization routines applicable when external projects are imported.

Rasterex Viewer

A new version of the Rasterex viewer has been implemented. This version now contains a Ribbon interface and improved layout. Furthermore, Rasterex now supports DWG 2018 files.

Mdoc 2017 SP01

General

Work on a new core model for Mdoc is ongoing. These days, client-database communication is subject to many great demands, and for this reason, we’re working on a new core model for Mdoc. This core is also ready for Mdoc Web, so that Mdoc can be accessed via the web, in the same way that the Mdoc clients can. This ensures that it will be the same methods used, for approvals, revisions, etc., regardless of whether the client is local or is a web client.

This work will continue throughout the next half year, after which is it tentatively expected that the new core technology will be ready.

Integration with Outlook

Out of Outlook has been improved. There is a function that enables the sending of a mail, from a mobile device, to a mail box, and this mail will automatically be sent to the right project in Mdoc. This function has been optimized, so that now it is a very useful integration with Outlook.

Autodesk Vault integration

The Autodesk Vault integration has been given much attention in the recent work cycle. It is now completely re-programmed from the earlier version. The updating of the Vault status values has been made completely independent of the information needs of the list window. By doing this, notable gains in performance have been achieved. Effort has been put into using as many Vault terms as possible. This means that Mdoc dialog prompts will be similar to Vault Explorer prompts. And where possible Vault Explorer’s own dialog prompts are used, so that the user experience will be reminiscent of Vault Explorer.

The earlier critiques regarding two-way communication between Vault and Mdoc have been addressed. Now Mdoc will always reflect what is in Vault. However, it is still possible for there to be files in Mdoc that haven’t yet been checked in in Vault. From Mdoc, one can both remove the local file, and delete the file entirely both from Vault and Mdoc.

MdCase

The Case module has had a couple of new features added . It is now possible to limit the number of cases in the Case dialog. This has been a problem, when there were many cases, because those made MdCase slow to work with.

Update Service

Mdoc Update Service is now also integrated into Mdoc’s user interface. This means that from inside Mdoc, one can check for updates and install them. Furthermore, one can centrally make sure, that the updates are implemented, before Mdoc starts up.

Many customers have asked for a way to ensure that their employees install the updates. This has now been created.

Mdoc Update Service has been improved, in general, so that it is easier to use.

Future Development

-There are plans to develop a thumbnail window for Mdoc.
-There are plans to develop a module that can gather information, about who has a given file.
-Mdoc WEB will be under constant development for the next many years.
-There are plans to create a much improved “Copy With References”. Among other things, the interface will be given a lift.

Mdoc 2017 SP0

General

Mdoc 2017 has a new user interface. The navigator has new icons and the size has been increased. The ribbon interface has been changed to Metro-style layout, as well as the rest of the docking windows. Furthermore, an Office-style settings window has been implemented. In this window an html-dashboard is implemented which can be forced to appear when Mdoc is started.

The general stability has been improved. Especially when it comes to the database-interface from the Mdoc-client. The improvements have mainly been focused on catching errors internally in Mdoc and furthermore to reduce the amount of dialogs with incomprehensible text.

There has been implemented a “list type” in the document card, which is a semicolon separated item list. An element is either selected from a database list or a static list. When a list is edited, an edit-dialog is shown.

Outlook-integration

The Outlook-integration has been improved in various parts of the module. E.g., the handling of large lists has been changed. This to improve speed and thus making it more smooth to work with the integration.

Autodesk Vault-integration

Autodesk Vault-integration has been re-programmed. There has been some insurmountable problems with the existing Vault-integration and therefore, we chose to refactor it.

IBinder

A new IBinder-integration has been manufactured. To fulfill the many wishes from our customers, this technology has been given high priority. The list of wishes was long. E.g. the focus has been on the ability to follow IBinder’s user rights. In addition, the possibility for handling “illegal filenames” renamed folder etc.

Copy with References

Copy with references has been extended with several new functions. It is now possible to copy other types of referenced files - for instance DWG-files from AutoCAD including all Xref’s.

There has been implemented a static reference list, to make users able to see a list in the navigator instead of copying it.

Mdoc 2016 SP1

General

Mdoc 2016 SP1 is a service pack containing all released hotfixes for Mdoc 2016. This release includes a number of corrections to stabilize and complete existing Mdoc functionality.

Mdoc 2016 SP1 have an improved start-up performance. Generally, one can say that the start-up time has been halved.

The Mdoc kernel has been improved and new methods for controlling the database connection is introduced. This gives the users a better experience of Mdoc when working with the system.

The Ribbon setup is completed, so that both the ribbon menu and the right click (dropdown) menu is now set up in one place. Right click menu items can be removed and in the same way setting up Ribbon commands.

The administration of the system has been speeded up with a new indexing of the database, making it faster to look-up settings.

The Mdoc approval procedures have been improved. It is no longer possible to delete a file, which has already been approved. This has been a request from several customers. The functionality can be turned off in the administration menu.

New feature: Copy with references module

Some of the functionality contained in the module is already found in the well-known Inventor integration. However, several have requested a possibility to copy other file types than Inventor-filer.

” Copy with references” has many new features which cannot be found in the Inventor-integration. E.g. you can use a wizard for naming new files. There are also some features to filter out files that should not be copied.

New feature: PDF File bundling

A new add-on module that can merge several PDF files into one PDF document. This could e.g. be used in engineering companies where you send many drawings at the same time. Now you only have to send one PDF file containing all drawings.

The AutoCAD-integration

The new AutoCAD-integration has been completed, so that it is now up to speed with the old one. The Project Navigator and the Plant-integration is now built into the AutoCAD integration.

Mdoc2016 SP0

General

For this and the next Mdoc version, the team behind Mdoc has chosen to focus on completing existing projects. Furthermore, focus will be on stabilizing Mdoc further so that the product becomes more reliable than it is today.

It is important that the many features in Mdoc meet the requirements and expectations of the customers. Therefore, this and the next Mdoc version mainly contain small but significant improvements.

There is also a focus on performance. Therefore, we are taking new thread entry methods in use. These methods require some refactoring of the program code. This will not affect the use of Mdoc with just making use of Mdoc faster.

Extensions to the Ribbon setup are introduced. This means that it is now possible to create custom tabs in the Mdoc Ribbon menu in an easy way. Furthermore, it is also possible to add / remove menu folders in the right click menu.

Quick search has been extended, so the administrator can define some predefined searches. With these, the quick search results can be limited and in addition, the administrator can design the searches to meet the users’ needs.

A new fast method for ”Checking the files” is introduced." Acces to this method is from the right-click context menu. The check is done uncritically on the folder in which it is activated and all subfolders. This method is much faster than the old one.

Progress bars are introduced many places in Mdoc. E.g. in connection with the approval procedure.

Redlining has been changed so that it is now possible to have multiple files with the same name with redlining on, without them bothering each other. This means that having a file 123.PDF and a file 123.DWG both with redlining in the same folder is no longer a problem.

It is now possible to limit the number of levels in which new files and folders can be created. Thus, for example, it can be decided that it should not be possible to create new folders in the first three levels, which means that the general folder structure is not contaminated with misplaced folders.

The AutoCAD-integration

The AutoCAD-integration has been rebuilt. Everything has been twisted and turned and all customer requirements is included in this "new" version of the Mdoc AutoCAD integration.

Over the next six months, the AutoCAD project manager will also be integrated into this "new" AutoCAD integration. Thus getting rid of the AutoCAD Plant integration and the MEP / ACA AutoCAD integration, which both becomes part of the general AutoCAD integration.

In addition, the AutoCAD integration has been streamlined with the Revit / MicroStation integrations, so that you encounter the same buttons and terminologies in the three integrations.

Office-integration

At the last Mdoc release, a new Outlook integration was unveiled. This is in operation in many places. With the new Mdoc release, there has been a lot of improvements and updates to the Office integration. Many customer requests for easier operation has been granted.

Index server

The Index server has changed. It is now somewhat faster to index a complete file structure. As many customers get more and more files, it has become a requirement that a search index can be created in a hurry.

Vault-integration

The speed of the synchronization on the Vault integration is improved. This has also led to some general improvements in the Mdoc database connection. Thus, everyone will benefit from this improvement.

Copy with references

Many new functions has been added to ”Copy with references”. Now you can run the Add Card Wizard on single files before copy. In addition, you can generate new names on entire structures. Furthermore, it is now possible to copy AutoCAD drawings with X-references.

Add Card Wizard

The Add Card Wizard has been added a progress bar, so the user is made aware when it is engaged in a lengthy process. E.g. a lookup in a large databases or similar.

Rasterex viewer

The newest version (16) of Rasterex is implemented in Mdoc 2016.

Mdoc2015 SP01

Generally

A trash module is introduced. This module split the Mdoc delete process in two stages in order to make it possible to undo the deletion of a file. The trash function collects all deleted Mdoc-files in a special table within the database. The actual files will be contained within the revision folder. If you regret the deletion of a file, everything will be set back to the way it was before the deletion. All revisions etc. are reestablished as if the file was never deleted.

In addition, an interface to administer deleted files is introduced. This interface is used to reestablish or remove files in the trash bin. It is only possible to regret deletion/reestablish own files, however as administrator it is possible to reestablish/remove all files put in the trash bin.

Links containing document ID instead of the file path is introduced. This is useful when other systems is looking for a file in Mdoc, and this file has been renamed.

It is now possible to select if you can accept that Mdoc start-up with a search folder or in a blue archive selected. This set-up is user defined. If Mdoc is left within a very large search folder, it will be slow on start-up.

Restrictions on how many results that are returned for a search is introduced. If a search comes out with 100,000 documents, it will take some time to load as much data. Even if it is only table data.

It is introduced that the start-up routine look in the local installation folder for a ribbon file with the name of the database.

The update feature in Mdoc has been changed, so that the update function can update itself.

Archiving has been updated to also move audit files to the audit folder defined as receiving archive. Furthermore, the Mdoc Secure Document Server is notified that the files are moved, and that there must be security on them.

The Office-integration

A brand new concept for the Outlook mail integration has been created. Mdoc establish a pane in Outlook for direct archiving of mails in Mdoc. The Mdoc integration automatically suggest under which projects or cases a mail should be archived.

In addition, an extended administration of attached files has been made. Among other things, it is easy to remove logo attachments – and to administer this.

An enhanced recognition of mail from other companies that use Mdoc is also introduced. The database stores the foreign file numbers, and subsequent mails will automatically be suggested stored in the same project. For this to be done, a 3-letter unique company identification is introduced. NTI CADcenter has a database containing these three-letter abbreviations, so that no two companies have the same code.

The Vault-integration

The Vault integration has been changed, so that it does not take long to look in folders with many files. The algorithm to synchronize Mdoc folders with Vault folders are changed. This means that you can open a folder up to 100 times faster than previously.

Copy with references

A new ”Copy with references” module has been developed. The new module is based on a different technology than the previously known function. The module builds a copy routine from some predefined commands. Each command it set up in the Mdoc administration interface. This means that some standard copy functions are created which the user can apply where necessary.

In time, this ”copy with references” function will also be able to copy AutoCAD dwg files with x-refs and other files with references.

In time the module is going to be a kind of mass processing program where it will e.g. be possible to approve a complete assembly with accompanying references etc.

Secure Documents

”Secure Documents” has been extended to also being able to handle the security of individual files. This is done via a server program; ”Mdoc Secure Documents” on the file server. Mdoc Secure Documents create access to the Mdoc database, in order for the server to know which security level to attach to the individual file. This change also results in revision files being security handled. This means that if security is attached to the individual file it will at the same time be attached to the individual revisions of that file.

In addition, an API-interface has been made to handle security changes in the file system.

Mdoc 2015

Overall

The Preview function is greatly improved. Previously different unstable pre-viewers have caused crash problems in Mdoc. Now Mdoc have encapsulated the various viewers, so that when a viewer crashes Mdoc continues to run and the viewer is restarted with the next file.

Display of Ribbon is improved. Hidden buttons no longer leave behind an empty space; instead, the whole area is folded.

Support of the A104 Bips audit standard is improved. Among other things, the Add Card wizard can run in the approval procedures without the risk of "dead locks".

The Metadata panel is improved so that double scroll bars no longer occurs.

Support for Rasterex markup files is implemented. These are now included in the revisions. This means that you can restore a revision including markups.

A check is made of whether a file is exclusively opened. If it is locked, e.g. if someone else is about to correct it, or it is approved in Mdoc, a warning is displayed, that the file can only be opened as read-only and that it subsequently cannot be saved under the same name.

A very complicated bug that in some cases could cause Mdoc to crash - especially when Mdoc was inactive - has been fixed.

The language of Mdoc can now be set from within the Mdoc settings. However, Mdoc must be restarted before it takes effect.

The Statement-calculator is improved which means that results are found faster as shortcuts can be omitted.

Favorites are improved. They can now be saved in a file and loaded later. Furthermore, the order can be changed by drag / drop.

Custom parser fields is introduced, so that a default value – e.g. a template path - can be evaluated centrally. This makes it much easier to move a template folder or a complete Mdoc system.

The Office integration

The Office integration is improved. Especially the mail integration has been improved. A change is made in the way attachments are handled. MAPI mail is no longer supported, and HTML-formatted email will be prioritized in the future.

A template system for sending mail is established, so that you will be able to send different messages for different purposes and different receivers.

The Inventor integration

Copy with references is improved. A serious bug when copying large file structures and simultaneous Vault integration has been fixed.

There are added features to make parties and drawings accompany each other in Mdoc. Like workflow, naming, etc.

The Case module

The recently released case management module has been improved. Among other things, it is now possible to reopen a case - and get all the files back in the right status.

Focus areas for Mdoc 2015 SP1

For the next release of Mdoc, the following areas are in focus. We naturally hope that everything will be achieved, however no guarantees are given.

We are working on a new 'copy with references' module that can copy other files than Inventor files and include Mdoc-references in general.

A new Outlook integration is in progress, with a more intuitive interface - actually, it is a new panel in Outlook, which makes archiving somewhat easier.

We are working on a trashcan feature. So that deleted files can be recovered including audit, etc.

We are trying to create an offline mode so that Mdoc can be disconnected from the network and still function at a basic level. Of course, this will require both local files and a local database.
